ABOUT US
Howell Key is a Privately
Owned Island that was first purchased in 1950. It was
developed by a man named Mark Rhodes. Mr. Rhodes was
the person responsible for the mechanical timing device that
is widely used today in such devices as parking meters,
washing machines, dryers, stoves, etc.
|
| The
Island has a nickname, "Isle of Mark Time."
In the late 70's Mark's son, "Bill" Rhodes sold
the island to Jim and Elaine Moore. The Moore's have
hosted Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Church Groups on the
island for the last 20 years. In the year 2000, Howell Key
Camping was first offered to the public.
Howell Key offers
"primitive style" camping on a private 9 acre
island in some of the most pristine waters in the United
States, including the Great White Heron Refuge and the
National Marine Sanctuary. Primitive style camping
means that you bring in everything you will need with you.
Howell Key offers you beautiful waterfront campsites, and
porta-potties are provided. Transportation by pontoon
boat to the island is available at no extra cost. We
also offer Kayaks & Canoe tours with the best guides in
this area. Rentals and tours are available as well as
camping-tour packages. We occasionally do a main
"bonfire" on the island, but we ask that at your
personal site, you use charcoal or gas campstoves.
We will do everything in
our power to make your "Keys Adventure" a
lasting memory. For more information and site
availability, please contact us by calling 1-877-807-5699 or
e-mail us at keyscamping@bellsouth.net.
If you're ready to come to our island now, just go to the reservations
